Let’s jump into the best way to peel a kiwi fruit. We are going to use a spoon, yes you heard me correctly a spoon.

When I learned this trick I was blown away at how easy it was to peel the kiwi. One of the biggest benefits is the little amount of waste that you actually end up with.

Knowing how to tell if a kiwi is ripe will help you determine whether yours is ready to eat or not!

1. Wash the kiwi

Run the kiwi fruit under cold water and scrub it with your hands, a towel, or a brush. After you have rinsed it off go ahead and dry it with a towel.

It is important to wash the fruit because you don’t want to introduce anything on the skin of the kiwi into the flesh of the fruit. this typically will happen when you slice it open.

2. Cut the ends off

a knife cutting the ends of a kiwi

Cut both ends of the fruit. Take note of the end with the stem and make sure that it gets cut out. You can also cut closer to the end of the fruit and cut the stem out separately.

If you’re going to lose too much of the fruit trying to cut out the stem then try to use a paring knife to just cut out just the stem.

You can use a pairing knife or you can use a chef knife. You tend to have more control using a pairing knife, but make sure it is sharp or you might just tear the skin.

3. Peel with a spoon

Pick out a spoon that best fits the shape of the kiwi. If you have a really big kiwi use a big spoon and if it’s little use a little spoon. Test the size of the spoon holding it up to the side of the fruit.

Push the spoon in between the skin and the flesh. Work the spoon around until you get all the way around.

Rotate to the other side and do the process all over again. Now you have peeled a kiwi in a quick and easy step with a spoon.
